Lust for Life

Lana Del Rey drops another meritorious album. Who is shocked? She brought a renaissance to etherial music that makes you feel like you can go drive down highway one in style. Elizabeth Grant started off her career living in a New Jersey trailer park after signing a $10,000 contract with 5 point records. Before this move to New Jersey Lana had suffered from alcohol dependence that required her to spend time in a rehabilitation facility. Her life relates to the addictions that plague society that are more common and normally go undiscussed because of the pain they cause. Her music reflect her troubled past but sheds light on the fact that things can get better. This rebirth began with her self titled EP that gave people a taste of who she is as an artist and it has culminated with her current album, Lust for Life. Lust for Life is characterized by describing the word love in the modern relationship context. Modern relationships are complex and Lana writes that complicated has become the status quo.

As a modern college student I relate to what Lana is saying in her music. The song Love speaks to the difficulties of being young in a world filled with turmoil. Through the past year ours lives as Americans has shifted dramatically but by surrounding ourselves with people that love us and want to see the best in us is how things change in positive ways. Lana does not solely reflect on the bad by noting that love conquers all of these hardships. In my life I do my best to reflect on the positive moments, because I do not see the sense in dwelling in the negative. Lana's past albums can appear as if she is looking at the negative, but taking a moment to listen for deeper meaning gives the audience a chance to see that she has a wide range of emotions to describe her opinions. She has moved into a new musical phase and it is important to acknowledge that she has grown. Also special mentions to the people featured on this album: The Weekend, A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti, Stevie Nicks, and Sean Ono Lennon. These are some incredible musicians rooted in both the past and present showing how Lana will span the test of time. If you are looking to give Lana Del Rey a chance to join your musical repertoire I strongly suggest this album.
